Washington Post (WPO) Business Columnist Steven Pearlstein says the nation's current political climate is not only jeopardizing our ability to tackle national problems, it's also preventing progress on such basic issues as snow removal. Like many residents of the metropolitan Washington area, Pearlstein is grappling with back-to-back blizzards/heavy snow storms that have dumped more than 30 inches of snow on our nation's capital in a week. Washington, which has now received 54.9 inches of snow this year, broke its all-time record for most inches of snow in a year, 54.4 inches, which was set in the winter of 1898-99 (a winter that, incidentally, few of us remember).
